Accessible Anacostia
Location: Washington D.C., USA
2022.02-2022.05 Individual Work except master planning
As a historically undertreated neighborhood, the Anacostia is rich in agricultural heritage but lack of adequete provision of living amenities such healthy food, high public transit mobility and fragmentation of ecology. This project, based on stakeholder mapping and planning framework analysis, seek to revitalize Poplar Point Riverfront and provide social, economic and ecological opportunities for stakeholders.
PROJECT GOALS:
Provide stable food system based on food chain procedure as well as accessible space with DC side neighborhood and resources.

I-295 Freeway, a significant interstate highway however, is preventing connection between Anacostia and Capital Area.
Stakeholder analysis is implying a lack of living resources such as grocery stores, cafes or museums in southern space.
For the sake of continuation and access to waterfront, the proposal buries I-295 highway underground to keep highway traffic operation as an infrastructure, the portion goes between Suitland Parkway and 11th St Bridge. In order to make use of current onground space, a boulevard with three lanes in both direction will be designed allowing for less on ground traffic and more pedestrian space. Thus, building distances on both sides will be closer together with density increase. A continuous street with diverse housing chioces and commericial destinations will appear.
